In the first quarter of 2023, the number of dentures surrendered to insured persons of the General Health Insurance Company in the Czech Republic was the lowest in the last four years.
The number of code 00974, by which Czech dentists report to the General Health Insurance Company (VZP) the surrender of dentures, is at an all-time low for the first quarter of 2023. In the first quarter of 2023, dentists reported 121,987 surrendered dentures to the health insurance company, while a year ago dentists reported 1.5% more dental restorations, namely 123,804 products, and in the first quarter of 2020 dentists even reported 18% more surrendered restorations, namely 143,766 products. The number of surrendered dentures in the first quarter and their year-on-year change is shown in the table below.

The number of dentures surrendered has not reached the pre-cide level
The number of dentures surrendered is also declining year-on-year and has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, according to the VZP data, 673,702 dentures were handed over to its patients, while in 2022 this figure is already down by a quarter. In absolute numbers, that’s 503,591 dentures surrendered in 2022.
The most significant decrease was between 2019 and 2020, when the number of dentures surrendered by the General Health Insurance Fund fell by 17%, and between 2021 and 2022, when there was a 13% decrease. The number of dental restorations surrendered by the General Health Insurance Fund and the year-on-year change in each year is shown in the table below.
