The coronavirus epidemic also affected dental material and equipment suppliers in the Czech Republic. Their revenues in 2020, when the epidemic started, decreased on average by 9% compared to 2019.
The coronavirus epidemic affected not only healthcare systems and the population but also various sectors of the economy. One of the affected industries was the suppliers of dental materials, supplies, and dental technology. The disclosed financial results of individual companies for the year 2020 indicate that the majority of these suppliers experienced a decline in revenues compared to the previous year. Customers from dental clinics, dental laboratories, and dental hygienists collectively spent 8% less on these companies in 2020 than in the previous year.
The revenues of dental clinics were growing, while the number of treated patients was declining
Although the revenues of dental clinics in the Czech Republic were relatively stable and slightly increasing in 2020, the number of treated patients and dental procedures decreased, thereby reducing the demand for dental materials. Additionally, it can be assumed that the period of uncertainty brought about by the coronavirus epidemic led to the postponement of investments in dental clinics and laboratories. Disrupted supply chains also likely played a role. These factors significantly shaped the market of dental materials and technologies in the Czech Republic in 2020.
Revenues decreased for the majority of dental material suppliers
Dealers of dental materials and equipment, who disclosed their financial results for the year 2020, experienced an average decrease in revenues of 9% compared to the previous year. There are differences among individual companies, and some of them even saw an increase in revenues during the mentioned period. However, these companies were a minority in the analyzed sample, as the revenues increased for three out of fourteen companies, and one remained stagnant.
