The only dental profession in which the number of full-time jobs increased year-on-year in the Czech Republic is dental hygienist.
Number of dentists
The number of full-time dentists has been declining slightly since 2019, when the number reached 7,631. In 2022, the number of full-time dentists was 245 fewer. In total, there were 7386 full-time dentists, according to the Institute of Health Information and Statistics. The year-on-year decline between 2021 and 2022 was 2%.
Numbers of dental technicians
The number of full-time dental technicians was at its lowest in 2018, reaching 2,621. Since that year, the number is doubtful between 2,700 and 2,600 FTEs. In 2022, the number of full-time dental technicians was the third lowest on record, reaching 2,633 dental technicians.
In 2022, the number of assistant dental technicians was 96 FTEs. This has long been the least represented profession in dentistry, but ironically has the most graduates leaving the doors of high schools each year.
Number of dental hygienists
The number of full-time dental hygienists continued to grow in 2022. This is the only dental profession that has seen an increase, albeit not as large as in previous years. As of 2018, the number of dental hygienists was growing at a triple-digit rate. The year-over-year increase has been between 130 and 200 FTEs, with a gain of 51 FTEs in 2022.
