A significant number of dental laboratories in the Czech Republic are already testing, delivering and repairing removable dentures in violation of the current legislation without the participation of a doctor, at least according to an exclusive survey conducted by CESS.cz.
A survey conducted by CESS.cz in 2022 among dental laboratories in the Czech Republic shows that many dental laboratories often do not have a dentist present when making removable restorations, and dental laboratories are already offering their services unofficially directly to patients. Most often, dental technicians repair removable dentures themselves, but they also try them on and, paradoxically, hand them in, where the theoretical possibility of damage to the patient’s health is most likely.
The most frequently repaired, least frequently impressed
While more than half of dental laboratories frequently and consistently repair removable restorations without a dentist’s indication, specifically 52% of respondents, only 17% of survey participants frequently take impressions on new restorations, as shown in the charts below.
Slightly more dental laboratories are testing removable dentures than are printing them and turning them in at the same time. Removable dentures are tested all the time and often without the presence of a dentist by 56% of survey respondents. Handing in removable restorations is done by one third of the participants, that is 33%, as shown in the graphs below.
Participants in the survey were also clear about the possibility of legalising this ongoing practice in the Czech Republic. Over 86% would like to be able to repair removable dentures officially and 66% would like to be able to make removable dentures completely. Specific responses are shown in the charts below.
